Cutting loose...
After only being home for five hours Natasha was already starting to go stir crazy from the boredom. Her stomach ached, as to be expected, but she could move around rather well. How was she going to last three weeks of being inactive? She'd lose her mind.

She grabbed a mug and poured herself a cup of coffee. At least coffee wasn't off limits like vodka. Getting inebriated seemed like a good idea and Natasha wasn't one who was good at following orders.

She dumped half the coffee out of the mug and filled the rest of the way with vodka. She took a sip and smiled. This was more like it. The rest of the cup was downed rather quickly. The familiar warmth in her stomach felt good as she refilled the mug with coffee and vodka. If she was going to be taking it easy, she'd do it on her terms.

Sif had been waiting for her chance and when the opportunity presented itself, she took it. There would be no more waiting around in the background.

First there had to be some changes. Red was nice, but she had grown tired of it rather quickly. She went with familiar black and she didn't think the woman would mind so much. As far as Sif could tell, there was a point when the woman did have it dyed black.

The clothes were comfortable enough, but she wanted something less...black. She went with a pair of jeans and a red shirt. It wasn't what she was used to wearing, but it would suit her purpose.

The woman had been injured and Sif knew the body was mortal, so she'd have to take it easy. Although the woman was in good shape and was already starting to heal the wound. It wouldn't be long before the body was back in prime condition.

Sif looked at herself in the mirror. It would do for now. Now she had business to take care of.

She left the apartment and relied on the woman's memories to get here where she needed to go.

Don was in Avengers Mansion, working through the cataloging and identification of the artifacts brought back from the trip to Asgard. It was slow, mostly because he was working by himself and because each object brought back a memory , an association.

He finished up with the quiver of perfectly normal arrows when he came across a lady's dressing-mirror. He looked into it and saw his alter-ego gazing back at him with steady ice-blue eyes. He remembered this mirror now.

It showed the true self. A very dangerous artifact in the wrong hands. Too much truth was invariably difficult to adjust to.

Sif was at his apartment. His mortal form's apartment. She knocked on the door a few times, but there was no answer. Where could he be? He had been in the office a few hours ago when the woman had regained consciousness.

She could wait for him here, he would eventually return, or she could try to find him. Not one for sitting around, Sif went to find Thor. And she would find him, she was a skilled huntress.
donald_blake on July 9th, 2007 11:40 pm (UTC)
Don looked into the mirror again, shivered, and then set it aside to begin work on the next artifact. Which was, unfortunately, too large and bulky to be properly examined by a mere human so he had to invoke the ancient magic in his cane and transform himself into the God of Thunder. A quick call to Jarvis tapped him another keg of mead, and he got back to work.

There were only a few places Lord Thor would go on Migard. His mortal form's apartment, his office and the place where the Avengers dwelt.

The first place she checked after his apartment was the office. The lights were off and the place was dark. He was not there. That left the home of the Avengers.

It was some distance away across the city, but Sif was not daunted by the distance. She started walking and would not stop until she reached her destination.
donald_blake on July 9th, 2007 11:46 pm (UTC)
The suit of armor Thor was examining was a powerful remnant. One of Balder's, if his memory served. He paused a moment and offered a silent prayer to the departed soul of his friend, then drank lustily in his memory. Wiping the foam away, he moved the armor into its new home and opened the next packing crate to examine the next artifact.

She walked the numerous blocks to the place of the Avengers. It had taken awhile and she had been unsure, but the woman's memories guided her. The mortal woman had strong memories of the city that surrounded Sif and it wasn't too hard to determine which way she needed to go.

Sif paid little attention to the mortals that surrounded her. She had never been fond of Migard or its inhabitants. Asgard had always been her home and the place where she wanted to be. Her heart sank when she thought of the wasteland that was now Asgard. A part of her mourned the destruction of her home and she still longed to return.

She stood outside of the gates and looked at the building. Lord Thor had to be inside.

Jarvis rang him that he had a visitor.

He wasn't expecting anyone, but just to be on the safe side he locked up the vaults behind him and made his way to the front door of the Mansion.

When he saw the woman on the other side of the door, he frowned. "Thou shouldst not be up and about with thine wound." he said sternly.

And ... had she dyed her hair _black_?

lady_sif: Over the shoulderlady_sif on July 10th, 2007 12:06 am (UTC)
"I needed to see thee, milord," she answered. And it was Thor, not his mortal form. It made her happy. "And it is very good to see thee again."
donald_blake on July 10th, 2007 12:08 am (UTC)
"Thy jest is most unwelcome, woman." he said gruffly. "Didst see me yesterday, did you not?" he asked archly, putting one heavily-muscled hand on the butt end of Mjolnir.

lady_sif: snowy closeuplady_sif on July 10th, 2007 12:21 am (UTC)
"Nay. I do not jest, milord. The mortal woman saw you yesterday. You tended to her wound. I have not seen thee in quite some time. Not since the beginning of Ragnarok."
donald_blake on July 10th, 2007 12:25 am (UTC)
Without even thinking about it Thor had the woman lifted over the ground to bring them both to equal eye level.

"Who art thou?" he asked harshly, in the Old Tongue.

lady_siflady_sif on July 10th, 2007 12:27 am (UTC)
"I am the Lady Sif, milord," she replied in the Old Tongue, not moving in his arms and looking him directly in the eye.
donald_blake on July 10th, 2007 12:33 am (UTC)
"Impossible. The Lady Sif fell when Asgard was sacked." he said angrily.
lady_sif: evil looklady_sif on July 10th, 2007 12:36 am (UTC)
"It is not impossible," she countered. "I did fall when Asgard was overrun, but my soul survived inside a bracer I had been wearing. This mortal woman found the bracer when thou were in Asgard."
donald_blake on July 10th, 2007 10:46 am (UTC)
Thor lowered the woman - he dared not think of her as Sif - to the ground. "Follow me." he ordered brusquely and escorted Natasha down to the vaults. Once there, he took up the mirror and handed it to her.

"Dost remember this?" he asked with a very slight smile.

lady_siflady_sif on July 10th, 2007 10:49 am (UTC)
"Aye, I do, milord." Sif held the mirror before her and looked into it.
donald_blake on July 11th, 2007 12:19 am (UTC)
Thor looked into the mirror as well. "Then you know this shell you wear is not yours." he said sadly. "Thou art dead, milady."

lady_sif: thinkinglady_sif on July 11th, 2007 12:37 am (UTC)
"My body is dead, milord. My soul lives."

She looked away from the mirror and looked at him.
donald_blake on July 11th, 2007 12:38 am (UTC)
"And what of Natasha?" he asked stridently. "Does she not deserve to live?"

lady_siflady_sif on July 11th, 2007 12:52 am (UTC)
Sif looked away from him. "She does," she said quietly.
donald_blake on July 11th, 2007 12:53 am (UTC)
"You must settle this." he told her sadly. "'Tis not fair for you to usurp her short life."

lady_siflady_sif on July 11th, 2007 01:07 am (UTC)
"And tis not fair for me to fade into oblivion. I do not even get to dwell in the halls of Valhalla."

She sighed heavily. Exhaustion was starting to set in. The woman was starting to vie for control of the body and Sif was growing tired. Her control would be gone soon.

donald_blake on July 11th, 2007 01:10 am (UTC)
"'Tis not fair, but you fell before the chains of Fate were broken." he pointed out. "If there was a way to bring you back, my love, I would." he said sadly.

lady_siflady_sif on July 11th, 2007 01:27 am (UTC)
"I know thou would, milord," she said and turned to look at him. "My love, I am glad I got to see thee again."

Sif would not fade away. She refused to give in and fade into an oblivion. The body would be able to house both of them.
donald_blake on July 11th, 2007 01:29 am (UTC)
Thor tapped his warhammer and transformed back into Don Blake. "She's likely going to be pissed about the hair, you know." he said with amusement. "And how, precisely, did you get here?"

lady_sif: Over the shoulderlady_sif on July 11th, 2007 01:36 am (UTC)
"She may not be upset about the color of her hair. She has had this color in the past."

"The woman's memories on how to get here and I walked."

She eyed his mortal form. "Thy other form is more pleasing to the eye, milord."
donald_blake on July 11th, 2007 01:38 am (UTC)
Don snorted with amusement. "I'm sure. But she has a belly wound and shouldn't be walking for miles." he said crossly. "Now sit down."

lady_sif: thinkinglady_sif on July 11th, 2007 01:41 am (UTC)
She obeyed the command and sat down. "This mortal has a remarkable body. It is already starting to heal. Very different from the other mortal I did possess at one time." Sif carefully avoided mentioning Jane Foster's name.
donald_blake on July 11th, 2007 01:43 am (UTC)
Don frowned at the extremely oblique reference to Dr Foster. While things didn't work between them he was still extraordinarily fond of Jane.

"Yes, it is. I'd rather not risk it any more than she already does." he pointed out.

lady_siflady_sif on July 11th, 2007 01:50 am (UTC)
"She takes chances she should not," Sif pointed out. She was quiet for a moment. "Very complex, this mortal is. Her thoughts and her actions."

She looked at him. "Her heart and love belong to someone else, but she avoids him and is with you. Foolish these mortals are at times, nay?"
donald_blake on July 11th, 2007 01:54 am (UTC)
"Thou shall speak of this no more." he said in Godspeak. He didn't want to know Natasha's innermost thoughts - not like this. It was like rape, in a way.

lady_sif: thinkinglady_sif on July 11th, 2007 02:02 am (UTC)
"Aye, milord," she answered in Godspeak.

"Dost thou love her?" Sif asked in Godspeak. She wasn't sure if her host would remember this, but she had to ask anyways.
donald_blake on July 11th, 2007 02:15 am (UTC)
Don didn't answer, but instead hit her with a sad smile. His love-life was ... complicated.

One part fallen Asgardian, one part female doctor, one part soul-crushing loneliness, one part complete disinterest, to one part extremely carnal spy.

It made for some interesting mental dialog.

lady_siflady_sif on July 11th, 2007 09:27 am (UTC)
"A smile is not an answer, milord," she pointed out. "But matters of the heart are most often complicated."

She closed her eyes. "The spirits are starting to wear off and my control is slipping," she admitted. "I suppose thou will tell her what has happened."
donald_blake on July 17th, 2007 08:52 pm (UTC)
"Nay." he said softly. He owed Sif that much. "'Tis not my place."

lady_sif: thinkinglady_sif on July 17th, 2007 08:56 pm (UTC)
She figured as much and nodded. "I will make the mortal aware of my presence and we shall discuss the situation."
